HISTORY

History of Conditioning Air Mechanical

Conditioned Air was originally founded in 1956 as Central Heating & Air Conditioning Company, by A.J. Howith, a prominent businessman, and landowner in southwest Houston. It was incorporated under that same name in 1957.

Five years after founding the company, Howith relinquished ownership to Earl Kurtz. The company name was changed to Conditioned Air, Inc. in 1962 and has been known as Conditioned Air ever since. Earl’s son, Alan, worked in the company with his father for several decades.

Eventually, Alan became the president and owner as Earl eased into retirement. The company grew and prospered under the ownership of the Kurtz family for many decades. At one point, Conditioned Air employed over 100 people. Besides developing a viable service division, it has become known as one of the best there is in the high-end custom home construction, high-rise condo construction, and the light commercial design-build construction markets.

In 2002, when Earl Kurtz retired, Alan brought his brother-in-law Scot Varnau into the family business for his engineering background and management experience. In 2011, Scot purchased Conditioned Air’s operations and Alan semi-retired. The company is now structured under the legal entity name of Conditioned Air Mechanical, LLC, but still goes by its old moniker of “Conditioned Air.”

We have been blessed with a long company history, some great employees and wonderful customers over the years. Some of our employees have worked for us for several decades, and we appreciate their continued hard work and dedication.
